Nalbari, June 1: Roz Ali, the main accused in the sensational Gangapur murder case that shocked Assam, was killed in a police encounter. According to police sources, the encounter took place during an operation to apprehend the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.

It may be recalled that on the night of May 31, a brutal attack in the Gangapur area of Nalbari claimed the life of AASU leader Madhurjya Barman, while a young woman, Mridumudra Deka, sustained serious injuries. Following the incident, police launched an intensive manhunt for Roz Ali and other suspects allegedly involved in the case.

Police stated that while being taken to the crime scene for investigation purposes, Roz Ali allegedly attempted to escape and tried to snatch a police weapon. In response, police opened fire, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.

The incident has triggered widespread reactions across the state. Family members of the deceased, local residents, and various organizations have demanded a thorough investigation into the case and justice for the victims.

Police further informed that operations are continuing to trace and arrest other accused persons connected to the incident. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still underway and all aspects of the case are being examined.
